GULLS 0 CHELSEA 1

A goal by Stoch from a free kick in the 37th minute separated the teams in Saturday afternoon's friendly at Plainmoor.
A good workout for the Gulls against a highly-organised team made up of some of Stamford Bridge's most impressive youngsters.

Damn, this is complicated. Torquay play twice today, once against a Chelsea XI at Plainmoor this afternoon, and then this evening against Yeovil at Barnstaple in the semi-final of the Errea Tournament.
Qualification for the semis comes despite Crystal Palace winning their last group match against Bideford last night. However, it seems that Palace have serious injury problems, and may have forfeited their place.
Whatever, it's Gulls v Yeovil in the semi tonight.
Great day for the Chelsea game at Plainmoor, though. Should be good. See you there.

GULLS LOSE ON PENS

THE Eastleigh match finished 0-0 at Bideford tonight, before Torquay lost 2-3 on penalties.
Our man in North Devon with the straw hat and the melting 99 indicates a close match with some challenges flying in, and a referee making some eyebrow-raising decisions.

So who's playing for the Chelsea XI on Saturday, then?
With all their big names on tour in the Far East, it will be a chance to see some stars of the future in action against the Gulls.
French forward Gael Kakuta, for instance, is a 17-year-old who has made a big impression since joining from Lens, and defender Sam Hutchinson has played in the Premiership.
So the names, familiar only to people like Blogger Ben who knows them all from playing Football Manager, will also include keepers Rhys Taylor and Niclas Heimann; defenders Seth Ofori-Twumasi, Jeffrey Bruma, Patrick van Aanholt and Sergio Tejera Rodriguez.
In midfield with Kakuta will be Jacob Mellis, Lee Sawyer, Jacopo Sala, Tom Taiwo, Fabio Ferreira and Ricardo Fernandes. Up front expect to see Daniel Philliskirk, Morten Nielsen, Miroslav Stoch and Shaun Cummings.

Bucks wants a short back and sides before tonight's match against Eastleigh in the Errea Tournament at Bideford.
The Gulls have asked the groundsman at the Sports Ground to cut the pitch, having found it a bit shaggy against Bideford the other night.
Martin Rice is likely to get a game tonight as the boss rings the changes as promised.
Goalkeeper Gareth Howells is in the Eastleigh squad, by the way. Howells, who is 38, is the goalkeeping coach and number two keeper at the Conference South outfit. It was he, of course, who scored our winning penalty in the 1991 play-off final against Blackpool at Wembley.

GOALS from Mustapha Carayol and Tyrone Thompson gave the Gulls victory in their opening match in the Errea tournament in North Devon.Carayol struck after 42 minutes, converting an Elliot Benyon cross, and Thompson put the game beyond Bideford's reach wih a shot at the end of a flowing move.Torquay made a number of tactical changes to their line-up, and Western League Bideford made the Gulls work hard for the victory.Full report in Wednesday's Herald Express and at http://www.thisissouthdevon.co.uk/
It's Bideford tonight in the first match of the Errea tournament, with ex-Gulls favourite Sean Joyce in charge of the home side.
The whole Gulls squad has gone to North Devon for the tournament as a bit of pre-season team-building, and the only player definitely ruled out tonight is Roscoe, who is still recovering from his shoulder operation.
Joycey's boys include some familiar names for South Devon football fans, among them keeper Kenny Griffiths, defenders Reece Moseley, Nick Barker, Robbie Herrera and Tom Stocco, midfielders Clay Bond and Ian Down and striker Ellis Laight.
